We have received our first grant from the City of Roseville!!
Project: "Paths to Literacy"
Part 1: Distribution of Dyslexia Resource Kits to 100 teachers/educators. Kit will include Overcoming Dyslexia (book), Embracing Dyslexia (movie), and 10 pages of handouts from a variety of experts. Also, distribution of Dyslexia Assessment and Intervention (book) to 10 schools, 3 copies each, for resource and special education teachers.
Part 2: Introduction to Dyslexia Presentation, a 3-hour presentation, 2 presentations, 60 teachers at each event. An excellent overview that helps educators understand what dyslexia is, how to identify it, and how to put in place free and low cost accommodations. Educators will walk away with a resource binder and a terrific foundation for working with students with dyslexia.
Part 3: Dyslexia for a Day (simulation), 2-hour presentation, 2 presentations, 60 teachers at each event. There is nothing quite like walking in another person's shoes to truly understand their struggles. This activity-filled session helps teachers understand why a simple act like taking notes or copying from the whiteboard can cause a student with dyslexia to shut down.
Part 4: Exploring Approaches and Tapping Resources, one 2.5-hour presentation/discussion for 10 resource specialists, special education teachers, and administrators that will help teams develop intervention plans/programs that fit their students and budgets.
*There will be slight modifications to the project as funding was not granted for the full scope of the project.*
