Dyslexia Alliance: Scholarship Program Program Description and Requirements
Goal of the Dyslexia Alliance Scholarship Program: One of our goals at Dyslexia Alliance is to offer scholarships to families and individuals who seek financial assistance so that the family or individual may effectively address dyslexia.
The scholarship money can be used in the following ways:
Tutoring materials. These materials must be Orton-Gillingham-based materials. We make this stipulation because the O-G approach is the only approach supported by scientific evidence. See our website for a list of evidence-based O-G programs. Tutorial support (hiring a tutor). This tutor must use an Orton-Gillingham program with fidelity. “With fidelity” means that the tutor will use an O-G program as it is intended to be used. Typically, this means that the tutor will use only one O-G program with the student, and the tutor will stick with same program throughout a student’s tutoring; the tutor will meet with the student for at least 45 minutes twice a week; the tutor will use the program according to the directions of the program’s creator. Tuition. Tuition must be for a school that uses an O-G program with fidelity. (See “Tutoring Materials” and “Tutorial Support” for information about O-G programs and instruction fidelity.)
Teacher Training. This training must focus on O-G programs or materials, or it must be offered by the International Dyslexia Association, Learning Ally, Dyslexia Training Institute, or the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity.
Applicant Qualifications. An individual seeking a Dyslexia Alliance scholarship must fit the following criteria:
Restrictions. An individual or family can receive only one scholarship in a 6 month period.
Additional Information about the Dyslexia Alliance Scholarship Program. Dyslexia Alliance aims to give out one scholarship of $150 before June 2016. As our funding increases, we will increase the number, frequency, and amount of the scholarships.
Donors can make donations and voice a preference that the money go to this program.
